Full Bleed Branding

Go edge-to-edge for the full impact

 What is full-bleed printing?

Most people want something simple, usually a logo, to be printed or embossed on the cover of a notebook. Sometimes, however, that simply isn’t enough. In such cases we can explore with you the idea of edge-to-edge branding. Whether digital printing or blind embossing, there is scope to go right to the edge. So if you have a design that might lend itself to the ‘wow’ factor then get in touch and we can discuss what can be done.

Full Bleed Printing Q&A

  • It is a technical printing term, which comes from the artwork bleeding off the edge of the available printing area. In our case it refers to using the full width of the notebook cover, to ‘bleed’ off the edges.

  • Yes! Although we call it edge-to-edge, in fact we can’t print to the edge of the spine (ie the left-hand side). This is because the spine curves away and there is less of a hard line to work to. For this reason some designs work better than others, see the Calligo example we have used on this page which bleeds top, right and bottom but not the left.

  • This process is very technically involved, and each enquiry will need to be handled differently. We will consult with technical experts in this branding process and advise you of what will be possible. In some cases we may need to produce a pre-production sample to physically see the result before running the full print run.

  • For the impact it creates, or because your artwork lends itself to that process.
